Mark Freyman brings more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry, focused primarily on energy transition. Throughout his career, Mark has worked across the energy value chain as a wind developer, a buy-side asset investor and, most recently as an executive at Smart Wires, an electric transmission technology provider. As Chief Commercial Officer at Smart Wires, Mark was responsible for revenue growth across four continents leading to a Smart Wires public offering.
Prior to Smart Wires, Mark led the Renewable Power Group at Chevron Corporation investing as tax equity in wind, solar and geothermal assets. He was responsible for all aspects of the investment process from sourcing to exit, deploying more than $500M.
Within the tax equity program that Mark created at Chevron, he selected MIC Renewable Energy Holdings (“MREH”) as a sponsor equity partner, which started a long-standing working relationship with Bill Green and Lex Wolf. Many of the innovative approaches developed through the years of partnership collaboration are now a part of the CAI investment approach.
Prior to Chevron, Mark led project finance for a wind developer, building some of the first wind farms in British Columbia, Canada.
Mark joined CAI shortly after its inception in 2021 and leads the Firm’s work on green molecule production and use, transmission, geothermal and other key workstreams.
Mark holds a BBA in finance (with distinction) from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard Business School. A self-described behavioral economics geek, Mark lives in San Francisco with his wife, two children and the world’s laziest dog.
